TDS Deducted But Not Showing in Form 26AS? Here's How to Fix It

If tax was deducted from your salary, interest or payments but does not appear in Form 26AS, you cannot claim that credit, and your refund shrinks. Here is why it happens and how to get it corrected.

You see TDS deducted on your payslip or interest certificate, but when you download Form 26AS, it is not there, or the amount is wrong. Since your refund and tax credit depend on what 26AS shows, this gap directly costs you money until it is fixed.

Why TDS goes missing from 26AS

The most common cause is on the deductor's side: your employer, bank or client deducted the tax but did not deposit it correctly, filed the TDS return late, or quoted the wrong PAN. Form 26AS only reflects what the deductor has actually filed and matched to your PAN, so any error there leaves a hole in your credit.

How to confirm the gap

Compare your Form 16 or 16A (or your interest certificate) against Form 26AS, entry by entry and quarter by quarter. If the deducted amount in your certificate does not appear in 26AS, or appears under a different PAN or period, you have a mismatch that needs correcting before you file.

Getting it corrected

The fix has to come from the deductor. Notify your employer, bank or client and ask them to file a revised TDS return with the correct PAN and details. Once they do, the entry flows into your Form 26AS. If the deductor does not cooperate, you can raise a grievance through the e-filing portal, keeping all your proof of deduction.

Protecting your refund in the meantime

If the deadline is close and the correction has not come through, do not claim credit that 26AS does not support, that itself invites a notice. Instead, file based on the verified 26AS position, keep your deduction certificates as evidence, and track the correction so you can revise or respond if needed. The goal is a return that matches the department's records while you pursue the fix.

Frequently asked questions

When is a tax audit mandatory under Section 44AB?
For a business, when turnover exceeds ₹1 crore, or ₹10 crore if cash transactions stay under 5% of both receipts and payments. For a professional, when gross receipts exceed ₹50 lakh. It is also mandatory if you opt out of a presumptive scheme like 44AD or 44ADA and declare profits below the presumptive rate while your income exceeds the basic exemption limit.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my TDS not showing in Form 26AS?
Usually because the deductor, your employer, bank or client, did not deposit the tax correctly, filed the TDS return late, or quoted the wrong PAN. Form 26AS only reflects what the deductor has filed and matched to your PAN.
Can I claim TDS credit that is not in Form 26AS?
It is risky to claim credit that 26AS does not support, as it can trigger a notice. The correct approach is to get the deductor to file a revised TDS return so the entry appears, then claim it.
How do I get my TDS corrected in Form 26AS?
Ask the deductor to file a revised TDS return with the correct PAN and details. If they do not cooperate, raise a grievance on the e-filing portal and keep your proof of deduction.
Will a TDS mismatch delay my refund?
Yes. Since your refund depends on the tax credit shown in Form 26AS, a missing or wrong TDS entry can reduce or delay your refund until it is corrected.
